EXPERIENCE:

  • Decades of Top Secret financial investigative work in over 50 countries. Work on a daily basis with Ambassadors, S&P 500 Companies, Foreign Intelligence Officers Public and Private Sector cases. Trained to identify sources and uses of financial fraud. Provide Risk Management Analysis documentation.

  • Decades of Congressional Legislative work with U.S. Congress (Senate and House) as both the Special Agent Attaché in Charge with the Secret Service and Vice President of Major League Baseball for Commissioner Bud Selig. Writing skills include MLB Safety Act Certification manual accepted for legislation by House Committees. This legislation encompasses the vast majority of MLB’s 30 Team Stadiums.  Safety protocols in 2002 for the U.S. Embassy in Moscow were approved by Homeland Security and Capitol Hill committees. Subpoenaed by House Judiciary Committee to provide expert testimony of White House Security for Office of Independent Counsel, Ken Starr. Currently, interact with Congressional Baseball Team Members (House and Senate) as the “unofficial” pitching coach with former SF Giant Teammate Darrell Evans. This continues 20-plus years of Capital Hill Liaison.

  • Special Agent Attaché in Charge to Russia and Germany. Investigated 9/11 Terrorist Cells in Hamburg, Germany. Directly involved in economic and political policies involving Russia, Germany, the Middle East, and dozens of countries.

  • Major League Baseball Player, San Francisco Giants. The youngest player in MLB in 1980. Starting pitcher. Hired by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to oversee both domestic and MLB International Operations. Spearheaded the 2012 and 2014 World Baseball Classic (WBC) consisting of 16 countries. German Speaker and Latin trained.  Oversite responsibility for MLB’s Patents, Brands, Licensing, Products, Facilities, Stadiums, and Personnel, throughout the world.

In 1977, when I was the pitching coach at the University of California, Berkeley, I had the unfortunate experience of watching Bill Bordley overpower our hitters while pitching for USC. At that time, I remember thinking he was the best college pitcher I had ever seen. Since 1979, due to my profession with Easton Sports and Mizuno, my duties have required me to be in Omaha at over 40 College World Series tournaments.  I’ve seen the best of the best and I still regard Bill as the best college pitcher I’ve ever seen. In 1978, I sat behind home plate with dozens of MLB scouts and executives the night he won the national championship. The vast majority of those scouts and executives concurred with my evaluation of Bill. Never before or after have I seen as much interest in one player. Bill defeated a powerful ASU team for the final game of the College World Series. I knew then he would be the #1 pick in 1979 and would rise quickly to the Major Leagues, which he did at 21 years of age. In 1979, I began working at Mizuno and our executives wanted to select MLB players to utilize our products  (gloves, cleats, shoes, bats, etc) and Bill was immediately our client. To this day we remain good friends/business associates and his teen-age son, Billy, is now “my client”.

While I did observe Bill’s physical talent in 1977, the decades after have been more impressive in terms of his work ethic, language skills, cultural awareness and accomplishments. From Presidents of the United States; Attache to Russia; Vice President of MLB; and now the President of WCB International; he has developed quite an international presence that cannot be matched. Baseball is an international game and very popular in Japan, where I have spent decades of my life in business. Bill has a golden reputation with many Japanese legendary players (Suguru Egawa Egawa, Toby Hara etc) and business executives.

My association with Bill Bordley began in the late 1970’s, when we were teammates with the San Francisco Giants. He came to Spring Training highly acclaimed as the #1 prospect in the country and the first $250,000 “Bonus Baby.”  His work ethic and talent were great as he advanced to the Major Leagues at 21 years of age. Multiple “Tommy John” surgeries curtailed his career at age 27 and he was forced to change his profession, which he did. He returned to USC as a Dean’s list student obtaining a Finance degree. He embarked on a 20-year Secret Service Special Agent career. His tenure there included travel assignments to over 70 countries and was the Special Agent Attaché in Charge to Russia and Germany and spent five years on Presidential Protection Detail assigned to the White House.  In 2010, Major League Baseball Commissioner, Bud Selig hired him to lead all of MLB’s Security / Investigations.

In 2013, I was the hitting coach for the Netherlands for the MLB-sponsored World Baseball Classic. Due to Bill’s extensive international work experience and foreign language skills, he spearheaded the entire 16-country tournament. A myriad of International problems ensued pertaining to player visas, MLB patent violations, potential kidnapping and thefts occurred.  Bill worked directly with Ambassadors and Embassies to quickly thwart issues.

WCB International LLC has Bill Bordley as its President. His interaction with International Business remains strong and he is currently my “unofficial” pitching coach for the U.S. Congressional Baseball team. In this capacity, he interacts with our Nation’s Senate and House leaders. Due to his decades of Capital Hill legislation work, he was well-known before and fits in perfectly on his new team.

 As a player, Bill Bordley was undeniably a Southern California legend growing up with National Championship years at USC and Bishop Montgomery High School. His unique skills and talent on the field earned him immense respect and admiration from all who witnessed his performances. During his glory years, I was in the MLB scouting profession after my professional playing career. Without exception, scouts rated him the top pick in the 1979 MLB draft. He rose quickly at the age of 21 to the SF Giants starting rotation after only one minor league season. Unfortunately, multiple arm and shoulder surgeries stripped him of the talent he once possessed.

However, what truly sets Bill apart and solidifies his status as a Hall of Famer is his character and the way he conducts himself. Bill’s genuine humility and compassion shine through in every interaction. Whether it is working with youth at charity events or his services with his financial security company, he constantly goes above and beyond to offer his support to those around him.

Having the privilege of calling Bill Bordley my friend fills me with immense pride. He exemplifies the qualities of integrity, generosity and kindness that are synonymous with being a hall of famer not only in the realm of sports but also in the game of life.

Bill played for USA team in 1978 as they toured Japan.
